Victims Support Fund (VSF) on 27th May 2019 commissioned 147 public buildings and Water, Sanitation and health facilities (WASH) in Potiskum Local Government Yobe State. The projects were executed across 11 Local Governments in Yobe State.
The renovated structures include hospitals, primary and secondary schools, local government secretariats, local education authority buildings, a local government lodge and deep water boreholes. The intervention aims to promote the re-establishment of local governance and restoration of basic social amenities while creating an enabling environment for return and accelerated recovery.
The Executive Director of Victims Support Fund, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, in his project briefing, said; “We’re summarily commissioning 147 projects altogether today across Yobe state.”
He also revealed that the Victims Support Fund has expended 1.45 billion Naira in building projects across Yobe state alone in its effort to rebuild the Northeast geopolitical zone after the destruction that came with insurgency.
Professor Ochoche also appealed to the state government to ensure the maximum and optimal use of the facilities. After which he handed over the facility to the Executive Governor of Yobe state, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam.
The governor, in his speech, appreciated the Victims Support Fund for all they have done for the state and the Northeast in general since the escalation of the insurgency. He also revealed that the state government has adopted multidimensional approach to the restructuring of the areas affected by insurgency.
In response to Prof. Ochoche’s appeal, Dr Gaidam, assured Victims Support Fund that these commissioned projects will be utilized to it’s full capacity.
The commissioning was brought to an end with an inspection of the facility, by the Executive Governor, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, Vice Chairman of Victims Support Fund, Alhaji Tijjani Tumsah, & Emir of Potiskum, Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya after the vote of thanks was delivered by the Chairman, Potiskum Local Government Area, Alhaji Ado Hamza Ngojin, in which he thanked the Victims Support Fund for it’s steadfastness in rebuilding the Northeast and most importantly Yobe state.
The 11 beneficiary local governments are: Potiskum, Fika, Gulani, Geidam, Yunusari, Tarmuwa, Gujba, Busari, Fune, Damaturu and Buni Yadi. Victims Support Fund continues to strive to bring succour to victims all over Nigeria while also ensuring that resources are utilized judiciously in the execution of all its projects.
