As a follow up on the implementation of the 1Million by 2021 initiative and the commitment to support networks and ecosystems that enable innovation, the African Union is currently hosting a gathering of innovation hubs and labs from across the continent, which started on the 28th, to end on the 30th of October 2019 at the African Union Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event features participation from 150 tech and innovation hubs as well as about 100 innovation ecosystem stakeholders.
It is believed that as spaces of convergence and outreach, hubs are well placed to enable the implementation of priorities on ensuring that innovation works for Africa’s young people.
The conversations seek to therefore explore opportunities for supporting the work of these hubs while seeking alignment to our work in the policy and development space.
The last day of the 3-day event will focus on the African Union Roundtable with Innovation Ecosystem Stakeholders on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with Ibraheem Sanusi, Citizens Engagement and Innovative Data Use for Africa’s Development (Data-Cipation) Advisor at GIZ and Ademola Adesina, Expert on Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development, African Union/Advisor on the African German Youth Initiative, GIZ, as programmer coordinators.
