Kano-born Nigerian politician, businessman and academic, Abdulmumin Jibrin has served a court notice to twitter user and ENDSARS advocate, Segun Awosanya popularly known as “Segalink” on social media.
In the letter accessed via Twitter, the All Progressive Congress member representing Kuru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano state, accused Segalink of maliciously maligning his personality with “unfounded and untrue” allegations of corruption.
In some of the statements made by the defendant, Segalink made defamatory comments about the politician. Segalink claimed to have uncovered fraudulent antics allegedly carried out by Abdulmumin Jibrin. The statements in which he claimed Mr. Jibrin operated 17 bank accounts both local and foreign despite signing a CCB form that he (Jibrin) had no foreign bank account(s). Segalink also claimed to have shown the whole world documents and modus of siphoning money from MDAs after appropriation.
Segalink was further accused of making these allegations without recourse the veracity of said claims on Jibrin’s reputation.
Segalink has however been given 14 days to retract the said statements he made on social media including those that were published in newspapers and online news platforms. He was also advised to tender a public apology to Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin to be published for 7 consecutive days.
Abdulmumin has however demanded a sum of 3,000,000,000 Naira as damages for the injury caused to him by Segalink’s defamatory publications.
