Zamfara governor asks President Buhari to intervene Ibadan ethnic clash
Following the recent clash at Shasha Market, Ibadan, Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria, Bello Matawalle, Governor of Zamfara State has expressed regret at what he described as ‘ethnic profiling’ of Northern communities in some parts of the country. He called on the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari to act on the development.
Matawalle expressed his lamentation on the Shasha incident in a statement which Zailani Bappa, his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication made available to HumAngle.
“It is inexcusable that at this stage of our journey as a nation, we are yet to come to terms with the fact that God has made a destiny for us to live as one people,” the statement quoted Matawalle as lamenting.
“It is unfortunate that while our counterparts elsewhere are fusing up from particularity to generality as a people, we are fast sliding backwards from semblance of generality to particularity as a people,” he decried.
The Governor appealed to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to take appropriate steps to end the ‘ethnic profiling’ which initially started against the Fulani, but now permeating other Northern communities in the Southwest states.
“We must eschew primitive hatred against one another and learn to live as one people,” Matawalle advised, maintaining, “Our common enemy is not among those we live with in the same community, buy from and sell to one another, but those who take arms against us in the name of banditry and insurgency.”
He called on Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, to contain the situation in his state.
